Will You Remember
If there was only one thing you could remember
would you remember me and all that I was to you?
Would there be enough sweetness in our first kiss
to make memories for you to take into old age?
Would passion and beauty of life be so pleasant
you could not let the memory of it pass you by?
Surely no fresh face, no tempting body compared.
no new voice promised to love and cherish as I did.
Would you not remember what it felt like to be safe?
loved unconditionally even on the black, teary days.
Perhaps you will have forgotten some of these things.
Perhaps I will have to remember and tell them to you.
I will remember you, but I will remember how you took
each day so casually and thought each miracle due you.
I will remember how sad and alone that made me feel.
