Call Me Jonah
I languished in the belly of the beast
The earth itself did swallow me up whole
In bitterness and gall, I breathed the dark
And nightly terrors did consume my soul
No light did shine upon my shadowed heart
I wept for loss of love that shone so bright
Within the entrails of this wretched whale
I plumbed the depths, the oceans chilling night
How shall I ever see the light again
Or wander free upon the earth so fair
As long as I should flee from fates decree
And dwell within this dark and cold despair
Surrender comes at last, I know not how
But peace, with bright assurance, floods my sight
And now I lift my eyes in light so sweet
For she has come in wondrous glory bright
